LEGAL · CASSINI LABS CASE STUDY
Harrington Vale LLP
A boutique employment-law firm's intake, conflict-check, and matter-triage system.
Business problem
Employment-law intake is adversarial by nature: every prospective client names an employer that must be checked against the firm's client history before anyone can ethically discuss the facts. A generic "contact us" form treats conflict checking as an afterthought, which creates malpractice risk and wastes attorney time on matters the firm can't take.
Users & stakeholders
- Prospective clients submitting a case for review
- Intake attorneys performing conflict checks and qualification
- Practice-area attorneys handling consultations and active matters
- Firm administrators tracking deadlines and document readiness
Proposed system
CASSINI designed the intake queue as a staged pipeline — New, Conflict Check, Consultation Scheduled, Engaged — so a submission can't skip the conflict-check step, and built the ongoing matter view around jurisdiction, deadlines, and outstanding client documents rather than a generic CRM record.
Public-facing experience
The public site leads with practice-area fit (three specific areas, not a general caseload) and sets expectations for what a "case review" is and isn't before the visitor submits anything, which reduces mismatched inquiries reaching attorneys.

The intake queue is a kanban board because triage is inherently stage-based and adversarial screening has to happen before qualification. Active matters use a table because attorneys need to scan jurisdiction and deadlines across many matters at once. Document requests use a checklist because the operative question for each item is binary: received or not.

Conflict check and qualification are modeled as separate, sequential stages rather than one "review" step, because a firm can clear conflicts on a matter it still declines to take — collapsing them would hide that distinction from staff.
